[The Sun] Pedestrian Bridge Installation Begins at Valley Glen Over the Great Wall of Los Angeles

A pedestrian bridge was installed over the Tujunga Flood Control Channel on Thursday, July 25, that once completed, will provide community members a better view of the San Fernando Valley landmark – the Great Wall of Los Angeles.
The added pathway on Coldwater Canyon Avenue in Valley Glen was installed with the assistance of Assemblymember Luz Rivas, who secured $5 million for its construction in 2022. She was approached by Judy Baca – the artist behind the Great Wall of LA – for funding not only the bridge but the refurbishment and expansion of the mural.
Baca will be expanding the Great Wall to the other side of the channel, and the bridge will provide a view of both sides when the project is completed. Rivas expects the bridge to be completed around October.
“Years ago, there was a bridge, but it was damaged during an earthquake,” Rivas explained. “The goal of the bridge is now when people visit the Great Wall – school groups, tourists or locals that live in the valley or LA – you can see both sides of the mural at the same time.”
