REFLECTIONS ON THE WALL SERIES: Judy Baca and Kim Martinez in Conversation

May 22, 2024 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM PDT

Join us for ‘Reflections on the Wall,’ a series of dialogues between Judy Baca and her team of artists involved in extending the Great Wall of Los Angeles mural. This series features two influential figures in the mural art world sharing their experiences and discussing the importance of their collaboration.

Judy Baca and Kim Martinez from the University of Utah are among the few professors in the country teaching historical and hands-on muralism. As a Professor of Painting and Drawing, Kim Martinez has played a vital role in developing a groundbreaking mural program that empowers students to use art as a tool for social change. She has dedicated her decades-long career to muralism and community engagement. Inspired by Judy Baca’s work at UCLA, Kim’s program emphasizes experiential learning, interdisciplinary approaches, and a deep connection to local communities.

They will engage in insightful dialogue about their collaborative work on the Great Wall of Los Angeles mural project. Discover why Judy Baca chose Kim as a key member of her mural team, enhancing the expertise essential for the success of this monumental project.
