The Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) is accepting applications for a Getty Curriculum Development Intern. This position is a 10-week paid internship for undergraduate students from June to August 2025. SPARC creates public artworks and programs that empower communities and advance movements for justice and equity. This position offers valuable insight on how a community-based arts organization works to produce, preserve, and promote socially engaged artworks and programs.

About SPARC
The Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) was founded in 1976 on the premise that art is a site for social justice. Our mission is to produce, preserve, and promote activist and socially relevant artwork; and ultimately, to foster artistic collaborations that empower communities who face marginalization. SPARC curates gallery exhibitions and programs that promote civic dialogue, in addition to creating and preserving murals that examine the most critical social and political issues of our time.

About the Internship
The Getty Marrow Curriculum Development Intern will support the Great Wall Research Team in synthesizing, editing, and curating research for the expansion of the Great Wall of Los Angeles. They will primarily support the curriculum development to make this information publicly accessible to a wide ranging audience via a digital platform, and will assist in the furthering of SPARC’s curriculum development efforts. This is an on-site paid, 40hr/wk, ten-week summer internship at SPARC in Venice. The internship will run from June 9 - August 15. The internship offers a stipend of $7,150 (approx. $17.87/hr) for the consecutive ten-week work period.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and Google Suite
  • Knowledge of Adobe Programs (Photoshop, InDesign) a plus
  • Detail-Oriented
  • Ability to work in an energetic, creative environment

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)
  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.
Responsibilities

In addition to completing supervisor-assigned projects and tasks during the summer, Getty Marrow Undergraduate Interns must:

  • Work full-time (no more than 40 hours a week, approx. 400 hours total), for 10 consecutive weeks
  • Attend three mandatory Education Events:
    1. Arts Summit
    2. Two Learning Community events
  • Submit an end-of internship evaluation.
