Donor Tribute: In Memory of Seymour Kaplan

Thank you to everyone who celebrated World Art Day 2025 with a donation to SPARC! Because of you, we are able to carry on our mission-driven work in art, education, community, and justice. Your support means the world to us

This month, we are introducing a new Donor Tribute feature to our newsletter. Our inaugural tribute comes to us from Barbara Kaplan.

My father used to walk by the Great Wall project in the mid 70s. One day he went down to talk with Judy Baca about it and his interest in the project, murals, his time living in Mexico and learning from so many Mexican artists. At some point, he offered some insight and help with the WWII section. We were always hearing about the progress of the project at all the family get togethers, as he lived just around the corner and kept an eye on everything. I am so happy to see the project expanding. I know my father is looking down, perhaps frustrated with what’s going on in the country, but so happy to see the mural project in full force.
