Knitting for Community & Relaxation Event

September 28, 2019 @ 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM PDT

Let’s knit together on Saturday, September 28th! Join Mercedes Gertz and Gabriela Rochin of Stitching Borders in The Durón Gallery at SPARC to learn how to knit in a supportive and creative space.
Most knitters learn from someone else — such as a parent, grandparent, or friend. It is an art passed from generation to generation and between social groups. While popular for its relaxing qualities, knitting also helps to improve motor functions and alleviate conditions such as anxiety. It is a repetitive practice that works to calm the body and mind, and provides an end result that can be shared with family and friends. In this workshop, you will be taught a variety of foundational techniques, including cast on stitches, knit and purl stitches, and bind off stitches. It will take place in a collaborative group environment.

The cost of the workshop includes knitting needles and 100g of baby alpaca yarn. You are welcome to bring your own additional materials if you have them. We have a limited amount of donated materials available for anyone unable to afford the cost of the workshop. Please contact christina@sparcinla.org with any questions.

Reserve your workshop ticket!
