The Box Project Closing Panel: Feminist Networks of Creativity and Solidarity

January 18, 2020 @ 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM PST

Please join us for Feminist Networks of Creativity and Solidarity, a closing panel and reception for The Box Project exhibition.

This panel will focus on the dynamics of women’s groups, which for many decades have been an important way to seek support and recognition, and their continued pertinence today as a way of creating networks of creativity and solidarity. The Box Project emerged from three such groups, in Paris, Los Angeles and Mexico City, and the network established between them resulted in the creation of individual objects that express the identity of each member, only some of whom were professional artists. In this roundtable we will focus on the role of art and creativity in bringing together women from different contexts and backgrounds around a common need for introspection, dialogue and an interest in social action. These women as a group explore different examples of both their many possibilities and the tensions these possibilities often involve.

Featured Panelists

Karen Cordero Reiman | Art historian, curator and writer
Alma Ruiz | Senior Fellow, CGU Center for Business & Management of the Arts
Natalie Espinosa | Artist and design historian

The Box Project is a feminist art exhibition that emerges out of an international collaboration between seventy-six women across three collectives in Paris, Mexico City, and Los Angeles. Read a recent review of The Box Project by Hyperallergic.
