SPARC INVITES YOU TO PROPOSE A “SHOEBOX OFRENDA”

This year, SPARC is dedicating our annual Día de los Muertos celebration to honoring members of our community who have been disappeared from Los Angeles homes, workplaces, schools, and streets due to ICE raids and anti-immigrant actions. Together, we will remember, resist, and celebrate life through art, ritual, and collective healing.

Create a “Shoebox Ofrenda”

We invite individuals and groups to design a Shoebox Ofrenda (no larger than 14 x 10 inches) in honor of those who have been affected. Your creation can include traditional elements, reflections, and artistic responses to this time of crisis.

  • Applicants will be invited to participate in a hands-on workshop in October. 
  • Completed ofrendas will be featured in an exhibition and live community celebration at the Durón Gallery on November 1st.

Support and Solidarity

If you’d like to donate your ofrenda, SPARC will sell them for $50–$100 going directly to support the H.I.L.L Network, a grassroots rapid-response group supporting targeted communities in Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lennox, and Lawndale, and the Clean Carwash Workers Center, our neighbors who have been directly impacted by ICE actions.

Important Dates

  • Sept. 15 – Oct. 15: Rolling application period
  • Oct. 22: Confirmation email sent to participants.
  • Oct. 27: Ofrenda drop-off at SPARC.
  • Nov. 1: Día de los Muertos Ritual & Celebration, 5–9 PM.

How to Participate

Submit your application by September 15, 2025 early deadline to be considered. Applications received by October 15 will continue to be reviewed in the order received.

SPARC TE INVITA A APORTAR UNA “OFRENDA EN CAJA DE ZAPATOS”

Este año, SPARC dedica su celebración anual de Día de Muertos a honrar a los miembros de nuestra comunidad que han desaparecido de sus hogares, lugares de trabajo, parques públicos, escuelas y calles de Los Ángeles debido a las redadas de ICE y acciones antiinmigrantes. Juntos recordaremos, resistiremos y celebraremos la vida a través del arte, el ritual y la sanación colectiva.

Crea una “Ofrenda en Caja de Zapatos”

Invitamos a individuos y grupos a diseñar una Ofrenda en Caja de Zapatos (no mayor a 14 x 10 pulgadas) en honor a quienes han sido afectados. Tu creación puede incluir elementos tradicionales, reflexiones y respuestas artísticas a esta crisis.

  • Los solicitantes seleccionados serán invitados a participar en un taller en octubre.
  • Las ofrendas terminadas se exhibirán en la Galería Durón y formarán parte de la celebración comunitaria en vivo el 1 de noviembre.

Apoyo y Solidaridad

Si deseas donar tu ofrenda, SPARC las pondrá a la venta con un donativo sugerido de $50–$100. Todos los fondos recaudados se destinarán al H.I.L.L Network y Clean Carwash Workers Center, nuestros vecinos directamente afectados por las acciones de ICE.

Fechas importantes

  • 15 de septiembre – 15 de octubre: Recepción continua de solicitudes (se dará preferencia a las enviadas antes del 15 de septiembre).
  • 22 de octubre: Confirmación enviada a los participantes.
  • 27 de octubre: Entrega de las ofrendas en SPARC.
  • 1 de noviembre: Ritual y celebración de Día de Muertos, 5–9 PM.

Cómo participar

Envía tu solicitud antes del 15 de septiembre de 2025 para tener prioridad. Las solicitudes recibidas hasta el 15 de octubre también serán revisadas en el orden de llegada.
